Leake Auctions – Detroit, MI
September 9-10, 2016
If you’re looking for an extremely cool and rare convertible from the forties that has a demanding presence, this 1941 Buick Super Phaeton 51C is the one for you! Whether the top is up or down, the lines of this big Buick are simply stunning. The front split window windshield is another reminder of that great 40s era style.
The smooth, bulging fenders on this Super Phaeton wears correct gray metallic paint. Open any of the four doors on this convertible and you’re welcomed to a very clean red leather interior. In front of the driver are beautifully designed gauges that show speed, water temperature, fuel level, and battery charge/discharge. It’s topped by a big ivory and chrome trimmed steering wheel.
Powering this big beauty is a smooth-running 248 cubic inch inline 8-cylinder. The inline 8 sends power to a 3-speed manual transmission. Underneath, the suspension and brakes appear to remain in the same form and geometry as they were when the car was built. This Buick proudly struts its handsome panels on the open road.
