1957 Buick Caballero
The Buick Century Caballero Estate Wagon was positioned by Buick near the upper end of the market. It featured the unique Buick styling cues, powered by a powerful 364 V8 engine that is capable of producing an estimated 300 horsepower. This car has a tri power set-up which looks period correct and not original equipment at all. Originally these cars had a three-speed gearbox and four-wheel drum brakes. It is not stated in the description as to any upgrades like disc brakes or overdrive transmission.
The car is equipped with power windows which were standard at the time. It appears to have factory air conditioning, however some of it has been updated to a more modern system like the compressor which is much more efficient than the original.
The Caballero was produced for only a short time, lasting from 1957 through 1958. The car had high construction costs which resulted in Buick canceling the Caballero. Speaking of high construction costs, the car has four doors and a long roof line making the paint and body costs soar. For a nice job like this you would expect to pay around $20,000 for paint and body on a decent car without any rust. Red paint also costs more because of the pigments used.
It is unusual to take the body off the frame on these cars since the cost to restore would almost double. So I would think that it has not! And do not be surprised if this wagon fetches a hefty sum! Possibly $80,000 or more.
